Hey,

How does a tanker show appriciation to his crew?

In grunt land, if one guy gets something he has to share with his buds. Even our Capt. when he got his medal, bought with his own funds, a duce full of "Real" beer. He could have gotten busted if the wrong people found out.

This is my post

A GEN-U-WINE American hero. I'd be interested in hearing your crewmates' response to being your potential "band of brothers" as you run for office. You have to be nice to them, all it takes it one to ruin 30 years later. Ask Kerry....

Look forward to your Baqubah posts now..

Congrats and Thanks

I recall at the beginning of the war in 2003, soldiers who were awarded medals actually made it into the international media...I'm an Australian so I don't know the US army order of medals...maybe the Silver Star isn't worth as much as I thought it was...or maybe the media cares more about the bad eggs like Graner than the heroes

Wow! I saw the news at Sarah's and came rushing over here to congratulate you. Awesome! I'm so glad you're getting some of the recognition you deserve. Congratulations!

In a recent post you mentioned that you've been putting some of your men up for awards...Have they come through yet?

I'd say that if we see Redsix's medal mentioned in the MSM, it will be given as "an example of so-called 'medal inflation', similar to what took place at the end of the Vietnam conflict."

Hey, they didn't mention your blog in the article!

I liked the contrast between the article's description ("Prakash identified and engaged a resupply truck, destroying the vehicle and its contents") and Redsix's quote ("We gave it a main gun round and it just exploded, tubes went flying everywhere")

Thank you sir, for your service to our country and for a killer blog. It makes me proud that our country has brave men like you who also like to blow things up and crush cars and tell us about it [Do tanks have gun camera video like planes? Could we see it?]. I live in Syracuse and would be honored to buy some of your drinks when you return.

Oh, 6- that is tooo cool! We've always known that something incredible happened in Baqubah, and now we know a little about it. I can't wait to read about it in your own words!
Remember when you were complimenting your CO, saying he was the coolest, because he values your opinion and lets you go lead? I told you it was because he respected and trusted you to do the right thing, so he didn't have to worry about the decisions you make. TOLD YOU SO! Just read his last quote in the article.

Nice pics, Sir- you look proud, happy and humble- just what I would expect based upon your writings.

And I'm glad Chris will be sending you new posts. They'll be great, I'm sure!

Congratulations to an American soldier. A very good American soldier. You may be a Tanker, a ROTC, a New Yorker, and many other things to different people, but Bless you Sir; You are a fine American soldier! I am so proud to know that you have been awarded. May you live a long and healthy life, and may you enjoy sharing your stories with your fellow soldiers, and someday your children, and grandchildren. America appreciates good men like you. I am so proud for you!

Greetings from Syracuse! We had to find out about Red 6's medal last Saturday as I non-chalantly flipped over the FRONT PAGE of the Post-Standard to see a great photo and long article on "our boy". It was with great pride that I read the article to our 5 year-old daughter who cherishes the ground 1LT P walks on.

Her kindergarten class, taught by one of Neil's former teachers, has "adopted" the 1LT and what an amazing example he has set for these little ones!

Again Neil, "thumbs up" from all of us here on Gemini Path!

Dear Neil,
I just read the press release about your award and just want to say "thank you."
It is so great to read about the skill and professionalism of you and your fellow soldiers. The only thing the press bothers to report about Iraq is when the enemy succeeds against us. They never report our successes.

I want to say Sir, how very proud I am of your service. I myself have major fighting skills, but because of a bad arm I am not privliged to serve in Iraq. However, I am getting ready to fight the leftists and moonbats on the home front.

Neil, I see you’ve taken down the link to where the Army recognized your heroism. We all “roger “ why you did that, but I’d like to give you a different perspective.

As you know, the image of the Silver Star was again tarnished during the Presidential campaign. The circumstances under which one of the candidates (you know who) was awarded it came under legitimate questioning. In addition, the dishonor he heaped on the award after he was discharged is a matter of public record.

In addition, those of us back home who support our military and our country come hell or high water (most Americans) are not endanger of our lives, but we have been “taking fire from all sides” too.

Every day, the newspapers crawl over each other to be the first to publish stories that discredit our men and women in the military and our country in general. Let one guy do something stupid and it becomes the status quo for everyone, or so they would have us believe.

Neil, the Silver Star gets it’s shine from being worn on the chests of guys like you, and right now way too many people need to be reminded of that fact. The doubt that has been cast upon it must be removed because every man and woman who put their asses on the line without a second’s thought of being recognized for it need to be remembered for who they were and what they did.

So please put that link back, and every time you have occasion to wear that piece of silver you do it.

We know you don’t need the Silver Star to prove what you’re made of, but the Silver Star needs you.

Deepest Respect and Admiration,

TJSwift

HI there! Popped over from LGF to see what all the excitement was about, and wound up reading every post you have here before I finally got to the link about the Silver Star.

You can definitely add my congratulations and personal awe at your accomplishment(s). And you can also accept as high praise the fact that I've just spent about two hours reading the whole blog because you tell such a great story :)

Keep up the good work, and keep us all posted.

I've been reading your blog quietly for these past few weeks...and aftering seeing that Million Dollar Smile of yours on Sarah's blog - my day was made!

"Congratulations" will never truly articulate the praise you deserve for your service to America, your brothers in arms, and to ensuring that the seeds of freedom are planted and allowed to blossom in Iraq.

I LOVE this blog, and hope that you turn it into a book as a tribute not only to yourself, your unit, but to all the men and women who serve in Iraq.

I remember how much Tom Brokaw's "Greatest Generation " moved me, and now the great work that THIS generation of soldiers, and Marines, have done in the name of Freedom, needs to be shared and celebrated by ALL Americans, rather than kept silent and vilified by the MSM, and over shadowed by the loud voices of dissent that are broadcast at every opportunity.

Sometimes I feel that the hardest war being waged is not against the terrorists but against the minds and hearts of left wing liberal media and its all to many fans!

Courage is not the absence of fear, but the recognition that there is something more important that fear.

You have recognized that, and it’s made me appreciate, respect, and admire the calling you have chosen to accept. A calling you accept with Honor, Perseverance, Spirit and Heart.

HOOOOOOOAAAAHHHHH!

Congratulations on the Silver Star and thank you for serving your country with valor and distinction. I hope you and all your men come home safely.

However, i'm disappointed that some take it as an opportunity for political trash talking like this:

"As you know, the image of the Silver Star was again tarnished during the Presidential campaign. The circumstances under which one of the candidates (you know who) was awarded it came under legitimate questioning. In addition, the dishonor he heaped on the award after he was discharged is a matter of public record."

That's uncalled for.
